| I prefer to wrap my Tarot decks in silk because it doesn't "breathe," or let air through. This is important because it's been long believed that spirit and energy is carried on the breath, so if a fabric doesn't "breathe," doesn't allow air through, it also can't let energy through. Any energy put into it is retained, and any energy that may corrupt the cards is kept out.
Also, before using a deck for the first time, I sleep with it under my pillow (NOT in silk!) for three nights so that it can absorb my personal energies, in a more unreserved and "true" form than my waking self. In fact, I'm starting this with my newest deck tonight, as tomorrow night is the Full Moon, so it's like a double energy whammy!
Anyone have any other thoughts?

| Sleeping with it under your pillow is a good idea! I keep a clear quartz and a rose quartz (my personal stone) with my decks. I also make my own bags, with fabric that is somewhat representative of the deck. For example, my animal companion deck is in fabric that has animals on it, my Egypt deck is in fabric that is gold and lapis blue.
I like the silk, it's very traditional, but it's just not my thing.

| Two of my three decks are wrapped in a sky-blue silk; I received a large piece of it at a coming-of-age ceremony many years ago, and I just split it in half to wrap the decks. For my newest deck, the Sensual Wicca Tarot, I got a piece of red silk dupioni ("a shimmering silk that is created by weaving silk threads of two different colors into a weave that seems to change colors as the silk is moved around in different lights." Definition from WiseGeek.com), since red is the color of passion and sexuality. I also use the wrappings as spread-cloths when I read the cards. | |

| I have a matching tarot cloth with each of my bags as well, along with some bigger cloths. One is a silk scarf from a Native American store in Stratford. | |
